BioCanned quotes and attempts at flash usually fall worse than flat for these things, but we'll give it a shot.
Hi. I'm Jesse L. Cairns, and I'm damn glad to meet you. I've been a writer for all the part of my life that matters, starting off when I was eleven and found out it had a hold of my soul. At age fifteen, I started my first novel and finished it four months later. It sucked, abysmally. Since then I've been trying different genres over the year, alternating my publishing search between trying to find a decent agent (which has yielded its share of horror stories) and trying to find a publisher (which has yielded two major disappointments and a whole lot of little ones). To date I have finished twelve novels, hit a dry well with about as many more half-finished efforts, written essays up the yin-yang and even done some short fiction.
I have serialized two complete novels in this journal, my 2006 National Novel Writing Month effort "The Phoenix Initiative" and a 1999 effort, "Nightfall." There may be future ones as well.
My day job is driving a city transit bus. It yields its moments interesting, unbelievably painful and fall-down hilarious, often all in the same day. Not exactly where I thought I'd be at this point, but it's hard to argue with the benefits and it doesn't creatively sap me, which is a definite plus.
I'm married to a wonderful woman who tolerates my "personality quirks" on a daily basis... and if you are happily married yourself, you know exactly what I am talking about. I am not the easiest person in the world to live with. Truth be told, I can be a complete ass and sometimes am. She is also a great editor, tough but fair, and I owe a great deal of my improvement over the last four years to her suggestions.
I own two black cats and one gray tabby. I'm not a dog person at all. The less said about that "personality quirk," the better. I play a musical instrument (competently) and have a great deal of contempt for the "Guitar Hero" games.
Finally, if you read this journal on anything close to a regular basis, you will have a pretty good idea of what I am really like. I don't sugarcoat things, and I don't adopt some exaggerated Internet personality for the sole purpose of pushing buttons. I am who I say I am on this page; in the past, I have been told that my essay style sounds almost exactly how I talk in real life, and having said that, once again, good to meet you.
If you haven't hit BACK by now, I think we're going to get along just fine.
